Mama!

Outside the fiery circle of memory,
The howling surf, the incessant years undone …
Mom's love will stay with me forever
And touch my life in precious ways...

The looks in her eyes,
Staring down at this infant,
Whom she would cherish, yet must teach
To live and die alone.

And now a man stands in its place,
Glowing with the confidence the years have curved.
It could only take a mother,
To do whatever she has done.

The values she has taught,
The care she has given,
And the wonderful love she has shown,
Have enriched my life!!

Her love has touched my soul,
In more ways than I can count
So may our love go on and on,
A hundred thousand years!

Even in the glorious yesterday,
With its tints of tears and joys
I still do feel that I am in debt,
For she has given me more than I deserved!!

Desiderata

What became of us
And all our dreams and plans;
How could you turn and walk away
As I watched our castles turn to sand?

I remember it all,
The sound of laughter and
How happy I'd been, but was I really?
At first, remember how you promised?
It would be soft and tender,
A loving feeling to remember.

How do you walk away from someone you love
And take the road of friend;
Can you reroute the course you have taken
And start over once again?

I don't really want to let you go
But inside me I know I must;
The times we've loved . . . the times you've left
My heart says stay . . . but it's my mind I must trust.

We have shared so much together
Yet sometimes we can't turn back time
We must walk away, and allow ourselves to heal.
May life be gentle with you

Cause by what you bestowed
In our short time together
Will last in my heart
Forever and ever

Enjoy now your long waited reward
Feel peace that your love continues on
What was taught to me, will be taught to mine
Cause you live on in me even after you've gone

The Psalmist

Who has woe? Who has sorrow?
Who has contentions? Who has complaints?
Who has wounds without cause? Who has redness of eyes?
Those who linger long at the wine, those who go in search of mixed wine.

Do not look on the wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, when it swirls around smoothly.
At the last it bites like a serpent, and stings like a viper.
Your eyes will see strange things. Your heart will utter perverse things.

Yes, you will be like one who lies down in the midst of the sea, or like one who lies at the top of the mast, saying:

"They have struck me, but I was not hurt.
"They have beaten me, but I did not feel it.
"When shall I awake, that I may seek another drink?''

My Dear Country

For all the joys which thou hast deigned to share,
For all the pains which thou hast helped to bear.
For all our friends, in life and death the same,
We thank thee, Lord, and praise thy glorious name.

If from thy paths, by chastening undismayed,
If, for thy gifts ungrateful, we have strayed,
If in thy house our prayers were faint and few,
Forgive, O Lord, and build our hearts anew.

If we have learnt to feel our neighbour's need,
To fight for truth in thought and word and deed,
If these be lessons which the years have taught,
Then stablish, Lord, what thou in us hast wrought.

Romantic Renaissance

When you try your best but you don’t succeed
When you get what you want but not what you need
When you feel so tired but you can’t sleep
Stuck in reverse

And the tears come streaming down your face
When you lose something you can’t replace
When you love someone but it goes to waste
Could it be worse?

Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you

When you have no light to guide you
And no one to walk to walk beside you
I will come to you
Oh I will come to you
When the night is dark and stormy
You won’t have to reach out for me
I will come to you
Oh I will come to you

Sometimes when all your dreams may have seen better days
And you don’t know how or why, but you’ve lost your way
Have no fear when your tears are fallin’
I will hear your spirit callin’
And I swear I’ll be there come what may

Wherever you go
Whatever you do
I will be right here waiting for you
Whatever it takes
Or how my heart breaks
I will be right here waiting for you

The Strength of a Man

The strength of a man isn't in how many women he's loved.
It's in whether he can be true to the ONE woman he's trying to love.

The strength of a man isn't seen in the width of his shoulders.
It's seen in the width of his arms that encircle and protect you.

The strength of a man isn't in the deep tone of his voice.
It is in the gentle words he whispers.

The strength of a man isn't in the words he speaks.
It's in how he keeps his word.

The strength of a man isn't in how hard he hits.
It's in how tender he touches.

The strength of a man isn't in the weight he can lift.
It's in the burdens he can carry.

The strength of a man isn't in the hair on his chest.
It's in his heart that lies within his chest.

The strength of a man isn't in how he makes love.
It's in the understanding that there is more way to making love, than just making love for fun itself

SWEET!

I would like to call you my wild horse and feed you silver sage
I would like to paint my poems whit desert tongue clay across your back
And ride you savagely
As the swift and western wind...through a green and wild Nyanza

I would like to make you my secret sun
Blazing dark and red in the orchids
And I would steal away to watch the silver belly beams and bows beneath
I would make you my wings in the foothills of Ngong'

My lover in the oceans of the world
I would cherish your kisses
And scatter them like sweet memories
Of home!!
